Crowd Pleasing BBQ Food Ideas for Busy Cooks

BBQ ideas

When you’re trying to work out what to cook for a BBQ with friends, sometimes you just need a little inspiration. It can be easy to fall back on hot dogs and BBQ pork ribs, but wouldn’t it be nice to come up with some more exciting BBQ food ideas? If you’re looking for the best food for a BBQ in the sun, we’ve got some great recipes that can be easily prepared in advance and then stuck on the grill when you’re ready to eat. Spend more time socialising and less time cooking with help from SPAR.

Chicken tikka skewers

Mix a couple of tablespoons of hot curry paste with a small pot of natural yoghurt. Cut chicken breasts into chunks and toss in the yoghurt mixture to marinade for at least an hour (or overnight in the fridge if you’re really prepared). Thread the chicken pieces onto skewers, alternating with cherry tomatoes or red peppers. Grill on the BBQ until the meat is no longer pink and the juices run clear. Serve with a fresh, summery rice or a simple salad.

Honey and mustard chicken breasts

Mix together melted butter, honey, Dijon mustard and lemon juice to taste. Brush over both sides of the breasts, keeping some of the marinade back. Wrap the chicken breasts in tin foil parcels and place on a baking tray. Cook in an oven preheated to 180 degree Celsius, for around 20-25 minutes, until cooked through. Brush the remaining marinade over the chicken and finish off on the BBQ for a few minutes for added crispiness. Try serving in burger buns with lettuce and relish for a great alternative to a beef burger.

Make Your Own BBQ Beef Burgers

Homemade burgers are undoubtedly one of the best foods when it comes to BBQs. Create the base mixture by combining 500g beef mince with one finely chopped onion, an egg yolk and a pinch of salt before stirring together all the ingredients and shaping into patties.

Add chilli and garlic for a spicy burger, or opt for sun dried tomatoes and balsamic vinegar for a Mediterranean twist. You could even create a yummy melting middle by pushing mozzarella or stilton pieces into the centre of the meat and shaping the burger around them to give your guests a delicious summer BBQ surprise.

Grill until done, and don’t forget the BBQ burger buns and optional cheese to go on top.
