Each product within the enjoy local range undergoes rigorous taste testing by consumers, monitored by scientists at Ulster University. If a product doesn't meet their high standards, it doesn't make it to our shelves!

Ulster University Taste Test
Have you seen the Taste Tester approved stamp on our products?
We take our high standards very seriously. Each SPAR enjoy local and The Kitchen product have received the stamp of approval from our taste testers at Ulster University Food and Consumer Testing Suite (FACTS). Ulster University provide specialist testing to ensure our products will succeed in the marketplace.
All our own-brand products are tested and graded based on their appearance, aroma, taste, texture, overall flavour and likelihood to purchase in the future.
The tests are carried out under the watchful eye of Dr Amy Burns ensuring that all tests are carried out correctly to ensure we get the correct results. Participants included in the tests include experienced staff, such as nutritional experts, chefs and academics who have vast knowledge from across the FMCG industry.
These tests give our customers better knowledge and confidence when it comes to purchasing are products as they can ensure they are purchasing quality, fresh food.
Only products which pass the taste test end up on our shelves, if it’s not right we won’t sell it. Products within the SPAR enjoy local range are all stamped with a Taste Tester Approved badge, showcasing it as a quality product.
