This Autumnal Pear Bread is a moist and flavourful treat, perfect for the cooler months. Made with ripe, finely chopped pears, it combines warm cinnamon spice, rich butter, and a hint of vanilla. The buttermilk adds a tender crumb, while the sugar and pears create a natural sweetness. Easy to bake and full of seasonal flavor, this bread is perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack!
What you'll need:
- 200g finely chopped peeled ripe pears
- 400g all-purpose flour
- 200g sugar
- 100g cold butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- 50ml buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Mix in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine the eggs, buttermilk and vanilla with the flour mixture & fold in the pears.
- Spoon the mixture into two small loaf tins & bake at 200°C for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool for 10 minutes in the tin before serving.
- Make your bread last longer by storing it in an airtight container & refrigerate for up to 3 days!
