A sweet fruity treat
What you'll need:
- 8 ripe pears
- 1 litre water
- 300g caster sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 vanilla pod, cut in half and seeds scraped out
- Juice of 1 lemon
Method:
- Place all of the ingredients, except the pears, in a stainless-steel saucepan.
- Peel the pears and add them to the saucepan.
- Place the saucepan onto the hob and bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer.
- Poach the pears, covered, for 20-30 mins, making sure they are covered in the sugar syrup. The cooking time will depend on the ripeness of your pears – they should be tender all the way through when pierced with a cocktail stick.
- Once cooked, remove the pan from the heat and allow the pears to cool in the sugar syrup.
- Serve hot or cold with vanilla ice cream or or a dairy free alternative!
